Getting Jobs-What Students do after the course

Alys Kay

"I currently work as a developer/designer for a company that produces
educational content for Interactive Whiteboards, the primary medium used in our company is Flash. I am responsible for the development of a variety of educational projects, such as games and other types of Flash based content. My job involves the production and integration of various elements into one unified project; programming, graphic design, usebility testing, animation. I am enjoying the technical aspect of the job as the diversity of projects requires continual learning, recently I have undertaken projects requiring interaction between xml and actionscript. I am also enjoying the creative aspects of my job, I have found that working for a small company has enabled me to carve out a role for myself that allows me to be both creative and technical, and I find this very rewarding."

Branwynne Kennedy moved back to New York uponcompleting the Masters in Interactive Multimedia. She is currently working as Web Specialist at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.

"The programme offered me the chance to step back from the hectic schedule of web development to get a better
foundation in the principles of multimedia development. While on the course, I forged friendships with people from all over the world and learned a lot about the state of multimedia development in various countries. The course has
definitely given me a leg up in the job search and I would recommend it alike to either people already in
the industry who wish to augment their knowledge or to those hoping to break into it. "

"I am currently working as a Young Graduate Trainee for the European Space Agency. In this role I am doing Multimedia support for the PR department of the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne. The European Astronaut Centre is the home base of the European Astronaut Corps.

It is very exciting to work in this field, because it involves working with new technologies to maximize the publicity of our scientific missions to space. So far I have worked a lot with Flash to develop our PR presentations, but will soon have to pick up some ASP skills to develop a media database of our Astronauts and the training modules."

Berglind Káradóttir

After graduating from University of Westminster. I’ve been working for one of the leading multimedia companies in my home country, Iceland. We specify in multimedia applications used for educational and information purposes, and our list of clients includes both Icelandic and foreign companies and organizations. Among them are the Icelandic congress, national parks, national centre for educational material, the prime minister’s office, Ballard Power Systems (Canada), Ericsson (Sweden), etc. Almost all work is done in groups of various specialists (most of whom are a part of the permanent staff), including designers, 2D and 3D artists, programmers, narrators and sound engineers, video producers, testers, and more. Of course it depends on the project which employee works where and when. Our applitaions are most often created in Macromedia Flash MX but some have been done in Macromedia Director, and the delivery mediums used are the web, kiosks, CD-ROMs and DVDs.

My role within the company is quite wide. Mainly I’m a multimedia programmer and consultant in multimedia projects for our clients as well as the company itself, I co-supervise both documentation and testing of applications sent from us, and have been asked to give lectures for various institutions about use of multimedia in education and delivery of information. Currently I’m the lead programmer of the largest multimedia project created in Iceland to date, and the client is the National Museum of Iceland.
